Site Modifications. ≈ 24 hours to launch!!

While we have been logging progress in the form of posts, we will now be committing critical sources and research to their own pages. The new Documentation link above will direct you to all fundamental project files as we develop them, as well as a list of sources as they emerge. We will be continuing to develop the app for at least the duration of the AiOP program. New features slated to be released during the following month will include data export capabilities (both raw and graphical), the mobile-optimized site, additional visualization options and GPS locative functions. Additionally, we will be continuing to refine our process to improve the accuracy of the presented information, as presently it is merely representative of all that is easily culled from web searches. We will post to this blog and the AiOP blog as developments are made and new features are released. Please check back frequently!

Sources of error, “Q”, and the problematics of DIY statistical analysis.

Denoted in the CBECS pdf’s: for all values where “Q” appears, Data [was] withheld because the Relative Standard Error (RSE) was greater than 50 percent, or fewer than 20 buildings were sampled. Values needed to complete our algorithm, while quantifiable when parsing the public “micro data”, are often missing, and tagged instead with “Q”. Humbly, this is but one source to compound upon others concerning the probability of error in our final numbers. Read the rest of this entry »

The preceding traces initial Google search terms through their most effective results, and further through their combinatory relationships. In each case, we arrive an estimated average constant per time period for the entire building. The “Modifiers” object that ultimately outputs the daily accumulative totals in real-time, stands in for: current weather data (affecting daily totals), peak vs. off peak use (affecting rate of consumption / waste production), current market status (affecting rate and totals), and current homeland security terror alert levels (affecting daily totals). This mapping is representative of data that can be accessed from online sources. It is NOT representative of data that is ostensibly “public”, yet needs to be accessed through indirect sources, such as a FOIA request.
